Editor’s Announcement

March 9, 2011
By Shulem Deen

[Messages]

Readers and Friends –

Unpious.com is moving forward on several exciting developments, which we hope to announce in the coming days and weeks. Some of the old regular features (News Roundups, the Hershey Tam series, and, most exciting of all, several new submission contests) will be resuscitated, along with several all-new features. Also, Unpious.com is planning several events in the very near future, with evenings of music, comedy, free drinks, and more. (Woohoo!) So keep refreshing your browser page for updates, and keep a handy link to our site. You’ll be needing it.

At this time, I am proud to announce two all new additions to the site. The first is “The Unpious Forums,” a community message board for all matters pertaining to the Frum Fringe world. We hope you’ll use this section soon and often. Ask a question, argue a position, post an observation, share a poem, or just spread around that viral video you’ve been watching.

The second new feature is an all new “Blogs” section. Here we will have regular updates by our blog authors – our “columnists,” if you will – on topics that they alone will choose. The first of our blogs, “FreiFem,” is now up and ready for your reading pleasure. This blog will focus on women’s issues, with particular focus on marriage and motherhood. So head on over, and check out FreiFem’s first post.

We are still searching for one or two additional bloggers. If you’re part of the Frum Fringe community and you can write thought-provoking essays with humor and intelligence, we want to hear from you. Blogging on Unpious.com gives you an automatic readership for your musings, and would make an excellent platform for the person with the right combination of skill and insight. To be considered for this position, send an email to unpious.editor@gmail.com, with several writing samples and a few details about your background and experiences. We want to hear from you!

As always, we want to remind you that Unpious.com is always looking for more writers. So if you’d like to be published, please email your submission to unpious.submissions@gmail.com.

Lastly, we would like to note that Unpious.com doesn’t run itself and requires the considerable resources of dedicated individuals. To help keep the site going, please consider making a generous donation to this endeavor. The easiest way to send a donation is through Paypal; use the “Donate” button on the upper left-hand corner, or click here.

Many thanks to all our readers and friends for your continued support, and we hope you’ll help us achieve bigger and better things in the future.

I’d love an occasional Yiddish section too. For the opposite reason. I need to brush up on my Yiddish. Oh, I’m still fluent but I don’t live in New York and don’t get to speak it every day. My husband, in gentle deference, began studying Yiddish years ago. But then I got pregnant and there went that endeavor.
