Hurray for Good Dads!
I’m not sure if my man counts as a father yet, although if membership in the club is exacted in patience and kindness to the gestating mother of one’s spawn, he certainly well qualifies. I made him an onion and mushroom omelet in the morning, which fell far short of his egg creations (he is, somewhat unexpectedly, an omelet master), but still, I hope, along with a heartfelt card, it conveyed a little symbol of my gratitude for his involvement in this parenting adventure.
We didn’t celebrate Father’s Day growing up (or Mother’s). “Every day is Father’s/Mother’s Day,” my mother used to say, which I always thought was kind of a cop out. In my quest for new, meaningful, inoffensive holidays, I’m looking forward to incorporating all parenting related celebrations along with my other favorites: July fourth (celebrating freedom in general) and Thanksgiving.
In closing, a fun Wikipedia fact:
“More phone calls are made in the United States during Mother’s Day than during Father’s Day, but the percentage of collect calls on Father’s Day is much higher, making it the busiest day of the year for collect calls.”
